Why are my word files downloading as cpgz files

It's not necessary to convert one to other archive formats like ZIP, 7Z , or RAR since they're all used for practically the same purpose: to store files. I will educate myself, using the resources you cite! I didn't download those files from elsewhere. Those are ones I created myself, saved on my computer for varied lengths of time. I did not do anything with many of them.
